Students are the heartbeat of Concordia College-Alabama. Our Christ-centered campus community, small classes, and deeply committed faculty provide a first-class nurturing environment that enables students to grow spiritually, physically, and academically by discovering their God-given talents, learning new skills, and successfully pursuing their dreams for the future.

One student who is pursuing her dream at Concordia is a determined young lady named Heaven. When Heaven was just three years old, her mother sent her from Chicago to live in Sardis, Alabama with her grandmother because she could not care for her on her own. She thrived under her grandmother's care, growing up just a few miles from Concordia, and was overjoyed when she received an academic scholarship to attend the college.

She loves the small campus and class sizes, saying, "Many people here are like brothers and sisters to me. We stick together."

The first in her family to attend college, Heaven strives for excellence. She learned how to play trumpet as a freshman and joined the band. She works hard to overcome the struggles of her childhood and to show her brothers and sisters that they can succeed, despite difficulties. Concordia, she says, helps her realize her greatest potential.

"I want to do better for myself, for my family and for my future. At Concordia, I know I can."
